Micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) are the economic engine of many regions, but they often face serious difficulties in accessing the technological tools that would allow them to compete in an increasingly digital market. To address these gaps, the project “Digital Connectivity Network for Technological Innovation in MSMEs” was launched, led by Walter Felipe Mogollón Guzmán and Danna Sofía Suárez Herrera, ninth-semester students of Systems and Computer Engineering and members of the CREINNG research group at the University of Cundinamarca.
The proposal originated as part of the international macro-project “Digital Connectivity Network for SMEs to Support the Transmodern Economy,” which connects Colombia and Mexico and aims to strengthen the digital transformation of productive sectors. Within this framework, the students' work focuses on providing specific solutions to local businesses that need to adapt to the digital economy.
The project proposes the creation of a comprehensive platform offering administrative management tools, e-commerce, virtual training, technological support, and a collaborative ecosystem. Its aim is to increase competitiveness, boost digital sales, improve productivity, and facilitate the transition to technological transformation.
Currently, the project is in the design and coding phase, where the first modules are being developed and their functionality is being tested based on the needs expressed by the entrepreneurs.
The impact of this network directly targets SMEs, which are mostly family businesses and form the backbone of the economy. Entrepreneurs will gain access to affordable and sustainable digital resources, while consumers will also benefit from new options for purchasing products and services in digital environments.
For Walter Felipe and Danna Sofía, the proposal is innovative because it's not an isolated tool, but a complete digital ecosystem that responds to the real needs of entrepreneurs. "We want technology to be inclusive, accessible, and truly useful for improving the competitiveness and productivity of those who sustain the local economy," the students stated.
Furthermore, by being linked to a major international project, this network not only promotes cooperation between countries but also opens the possibility of scaling up its results and replicating the model in other contexts. In this way, it is consolidated as a sustainable strategy for the modernization of SMEs and for building a more innovative and competitive economy.
