Developing skills through programming

By: Alejandro García Suárez – Advisory Office of Communications

On November 15th, during the 2nd Latin American Meeting of Transmodern Programmers held at the Fusagasugá campus, the “UdeCoders” Programming Club was officially launched. This new club, led by Knowledge and Learning Manager, engineer Erick Sang Ramírez, aims to enhance students' talent in programming and related areas, such as mathematics, English, and critical thinking.

UdeCoders emerged as an initiative of the Software Engineering program at the Soacha campus, with the support of the Faculty of Engineering. Currently, the club has 42 students enthusiastic about software programming and technology. “Standing on the shoulders of giants,” stated Sang Ramírez, emphasizing the inspiration and collaborative effort that have brought the project to life.

Professor Sang Ramírez emphasized that the club focuses on developing fundamental skills, such as algorithm design and data structure management. Furthermore, UdeCoders promotes participation in hackathons, marathons, and collaborative workshops, which not only foster competition but also help students build strong resumes for their future careers.

The UdeCoders experience isn't limited to Soacha; activities are already being coordinated with students from Facatativá and Fusagasugá, and there are plans to integrate more participants from different campuses. Yudy Amparo Narváez Vallejo, coordinator of the Software Engineering program, emphasized that the club represents a great opportunity for students who want to compete, travel, and network in the field of programming.

Narváez Vallejo added that one of UdeCoders' main objectives is to prepare students for both national and international competitions, offering them a collaborative learning environment and mentorship with experts in the field. These activities strengthen the student community and open doors to the professional world for its members.

The club invites new members to join by answering three questions about their interest in programming, skills, and professional development. Those interested can register by emailing the Software Engineering program: [email protected] and with the program coordinator, Yudy Narváez: [email protected] , thus reflecting the inclusive spirit of this initiative.
