Data is not a game

The Information Security Area continues to raise awareness about the protection of personal data, and in the coming days will present the campaign: Data is not a game.

The campaign, entitled “Data is not a game,” aims to develop strategies for the entire community on the proper use of sensitive data, both personal and that of others. This initiative is directed at all members of the university community: students, faculty, and staff of UCundinamarca, who are exposed to the use, processing, and disclosure of sensitive data, whether private, their own, or that of others.

Raising awareness of this issue is necessary because failure to comply with Law 1581 of 2012 may result in the Superintendency of Industry and Commerce imposing the following sanctions:

a) Personal and institutional fines up to the equivalent of two thousand (2,000) legal monthly minimum wages in force at the time of the imposition of the sanction.

b) Suspension of activities related to data processing for up to a period of six (6) months.

c) Temporary closure of operations related to data processing.

d) Immediate and definitive closure of the operation involving the processing of sensitive data.

e) In the event that the Superintendency of Industry and Commerce finds non-compliance by a public authority with the provisions of this law, it shall refer the action to the Attorney General's Office for the respective investigation.

Therefore, students, administrative staff, and faculty are advised to take into account Resolution No. 000050 of May 7, 2018, which establishes the policy for the processing and protection of personal data, and Resolution No. 000058 of April 3, 2019, which modifies Resolution No. 000050; as well as the security notices, the personal data processing authorization forms, and the policies for the use of institutional personal email, since it is the only authorized means for exchanging information between administrative and academic bodies.

In the event that data subjects have a complaint, there are procedures and channels in place for them to submit inquiries, requests, updates, and deletions to the Information Security Area, which is part of the Systems and Technology Directorate. Questions or concerns can be sent to the following email address: [email protected]
