The Software Engineering academic program that will be presented to the Ministry of National Education will have 150 academic credits, and a duration of nine academic periods, with a semester admission frequency and a maximum of 40 students to be admitted per first academic period.
“The purpose of the program is to train software engineers capable of leading and meeting the demands of the software development industry, through the construction of specialized applications with international quality standards, applying methodologies, techniques and tools of the context, from a translocal and transmodern approach,” explains the rector of the University of Cundinamarca, Dr. Adriano Muñoz Barrera.
Likewise, the academic program seeks to respond to the different needs of the areas of influence of the province of Soacha and Sibaté, within the framework of the 2019-2023 rectoral plan “Translocal Transmodern University of Cundinamarca”, the 2020-2023 development plan and the 2016-2026 institutional strategic development plan “Designing the University we want” and the regulatory framework that governs higher education in Colombia.
This program responds to the need to strengthen, from academia, the growth of companies associated with the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) sector through strategies that allow the consolidation of access, use and appropriation of ICT by the productive sectors and the generation of specialized human capital, in order to improve its use and enhance its growth and social impact.
“In the social context of the population of the municipality of Soacha (Cundinamarca), the Software Engineering program offers different ways to give opportunities to the young people of the region, from the perspective of zero-smoke industries, creating a source of development that will allow us to offer qualified software engineers to the industrial and commercial sector of the municipality, the region and the nation,” says Wilson Joven Sarria, dean of the faculty of engineering.
It is worth noting that in 2019, the University of Cundinamarca conducted a feasibility study for the creation of undergraduate training programs in the field of software engineering, which would qualify professionals to address the problems and enhance the strengths and capabilities of the department and the country.
