UCundinamarca territory of Peace

The Institution held a symbolic ceremony in which it declared itself a territory of peace, calling on the entire community to take concrete actions for peace and reconciliation.

With symbolic reflections through colorful murals and the declaration of a territory of peace by the students, the Film Forum for Peace, led by the University of Cundinamarca, the Sena, schools of the city of Fusagasugá, municipality of Pasca and Social Pastoral, Cáritas Colombiana, came to an end.

“In the 2019 edition of Peace Week, we sought to convey to students that building peace begins in the heart of each individual and with concrete actions. This is not a process prompted by the recent declarations of Iván Márquez and others, but rather a process that we must all follow, always striving for a better Colombia,” stated Olga Lucy Ovalle, assistant in the international protection program of Pastoral Social, Caritas Colombia.

The Emilio Sierra auditorium at the Fusagasugá campus was the setting for students to reflect and discuss the culture and teaching of peace. The educational community concluded in this academic forum that peace begins at home, within family and school environments.

For her part, the Director of University Welfare, María Margarita Moya González, emphasized that the University, as an institution for life, democratic values, civic responsibility, and freedom, urged attendees to make a permanent commitment to peace. She stated: “Peace isn't out there in the countryside, it isn't in the hands of administrators or high-ranking leaders; peace is here in the heart of each one of you, through diversity and free expression. That's why I invite you to contribute daily to this endeavor that our country and our descendants so desperately need.”.
