UCundinamarca promotes environmental education in the department

The Facatativá Extension trained officers of the No. 38 Miguel Antonio Caro Infantry Battalion in Environmental Guardian.

The Facatativá Extension, through the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Environmental Engineering program and the Uniminuto University, trained 32 officers of the No. 38 Miguel Antonio Caro Infantry Battalion (BIMAC) in Environmental Guardian within the framework of the project Sowing Peace, Life and Reforestation, an initiative led by both universities in this area of the department.

This seminar workshop was carried out during the first semester of 2018 with the purpose of promoting environmental education for life, so that environmental managers become multipliers of reforestation, care and conservation of the environment, implementing good environmental practices in the area of reproduction of plant material.

The training was supported by a volunteer group of Engineering students, who contributed their knowledge in environmental improvement, the interaction of climatic conditions with plants, the relationship of soil with vegetation, water conservation, water harvesting, among other environmental topics.

The initiative is part of the Eco Learning macro academic project, led by the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and the Environmental Engineering program, Facatativá Extension, headed by teacher Nidia Judith Herrera Tacha, who has been developing activities in several phases, such as: training and talks to the participating community about reforestation and the environment, planting 2,400 trees in the specific places for the improvement of the sector, obtaining 5,000 seeds and seedlings.

The various activities involved the Facatativá community, students, municipal authorities, and the National Army of Colombia.
