By: Alejandro García Suárez – Communications Office

The University of Cundinamarca officially launched its professional soccer team in the Primera C division at its Fusagasugá campus. This project strengthens sports, fosters regional talent, and promotes life skills development for students. During the launch event, Academic Vice-Rector María Nancy Garzón Soche emphasized that this initiative reflects the principles of the Transmodern Digital Educational Model (MEDIT) by promoting values such as teamwork, solidarity, civic responsibility, and freedom.

“Education for life also involves nurturing teamwork and upholding human values. This soccer team serves as an example for new generations of students and for young people throughout the department,” the director stated. She also emphasized that the sports program raises the University's profile at the departmental and national levels, solidifying its position as a leader in educational programs.

For his part, the Dean of the Faculty of Sports Sciences, Óscar Adolfo Niño Méndez, expressed his pride in the participation of students on the professional team. He indicated that some players belong to the faculty and are part of a program that combines academic training, athletic development, and research.

“We have students from their first semesters to those about to graduate. It’s an interesting process that will later allow us to generate research and publications,” he stated.

The director of the CAC Academic Sports Center, Nubia Yaneth Arias García, recalled that the project was born with clear goals and has managed to consolidate itself thanks to institutional support and the backing of companies interested in strengthening youth sports in Fusagasugá.

“Today we not only represent the University, but also the municipality and the sporting talent of the region. This project brings together students, graduates, administrative staff, and top athletes,” he explained.

The team's coach and technical director, Santiago Reyes, highlighted that the squad has been built based on the characteristics and strengths of the players from the region, betting on a dynamic and attractive style of football.

“The idea is to develop a constructive game, with good passing sequences, speed and teamwork to compete in the best way in the Primera C tournament,” he said.

The coach added that the main objective for 2026 is to surpass the performance achieved the previous year, when the team ranked among the top 60 in the country. “This year we want to be among the top 30 teams in Colombia and aim to compete in the Primera C Especial category in 2027,” he stated. The Primera C soccer team will make its debut this Sunday, May 10, at 2:30 pm at the University of Cundinamarca soccer field, facing Flamengo de Cota, in a match that will mark the official start of this new sports season.
