The rector, administrators, and colleagues extend their condolences and solidarity to his family and friends. We share in your grief.
For teacher Aquiles Plata, who was one of his friends at the institution, his loss is immense. “I remember him as a very dedicated person; he always sought the practical application of mathematical knowledge by his students. He was a lover of education and had an unwavering commitment to the Transmodern Digital Educational Model.”.
She also remembers him as a very disciplined person. “He taught in the second and third semesters and helped me strengthen my work as a teacher.”.
Regarding his concerns about where young people were headed, he was categorical. “He was worried about their future and how they were developing as professionals and human beings in a world permeated by information and communication technologies.”.
Meanwhile, for Jeimy Ibañez López, one of his students, Professor De La Peña was always very responsible. “He taught statistics to me and repeatedly told us that more than focusing on a grade, the important thing was to acquire the knowledge to have a good professional performance. I feel proud to have been one of his students, because his commitment was always total.”.
For Manuel Ernesto Romero, a teacher and friend who worked together as a knowledge manager in Soacha, his loss is deeply regrettable. “He was a consummate academic whose background was in industrial engineering. He was in charge of mathematics and statistics. His spirit of innovation was constant, and he managed to transmit to his students his love for numbers, which is no easy task.”.
His wife and lifelong companion, Gloria Cecilia Serna, expressed how fortunate she was to have found such a wonderful man as a husband. “We were married for 37 years. We met at university when he was an Industrial Engineering student. He was a great husband, confidant, and friend. His greatest virtue was always his nobility, and he was known for his generosity, his joy, and his integrity in all his actions. He showed me his great love every day by giving me little gifts I liked, sweets, and messages expressing how much he loved me. He always instilled in me his love for music and dance, winning me over by serenading me with his guitar and his voice.”.
The UCundinamarca family, the campus director, Dr. Carlos Trujillo, and his colleagues will always remember him with respect and affection.
Peace to the soul of teacher Fernando Omar De la Peña.
