The University of Cundinamarca, in its environmental management policy, conservation and preservation of the environment through continuous improvement, carried out the “World Water Day Celebration”"with recreational activities that aimed to raise awareness in the institutional community about the care and efficiency of water resources.".
Through daily activities or production and manufacturing processes, the aim was to promote a responsible culture in the use of energy, use of materials, use of water and other institutional and regional sustainable development.
The World Water Day event was led by the Environmental Management System of UCundinamarca and its different coordinations at the main campus and each of the University's branches and extensions.
“Environmental activity raises the profile of our institution in terms of sustainability. Today, the University is committed to becoming a Green University, focused on a sustainable university campus; the Girardot branch is in the process of ISO 14001 certification , together with the Facatativá Extension, and later the other branches of our Institution,”, Juan Carlos Méndez Forero, Administrative Director of the Girardot branch, pointed this out.
During the day, the environmental management coordination of the Girardot branch presented the objectives and methodology used for the construction and implementation of the program "Efficient Use and Saving of Water at the University of Cundinamarca".
Among the activities to highlight in the Section, the water footprint test was carried out in order to calculate the daily consumption of drinking water of each participant, in order to reduce and ration the use of water in daily life.

The awareness campaign on water care and conservation was supported by the student community of the Environmental Engineering and Nursing programs, from the first, seventh and eighth semesters, supported by teachers Arley Torres, Dalia Suárez and María Nieves Ávila, along with the theater group and papayera band.
“With these activities, the University of Cundinamarca demonstrates its commitment to natural resources, and aims to involve the entire university community in raising awareness about the care of this water resource,”, highlighted Engineer Yimy Leonardo Villalobos, Environmental Management Coordinator, Fusagasugá Headquarters.
The environmental event at the Girardot branch was supported by the Environmental Engineering Program, Piloto University of Colombia, Alto Magdalena branch, Minuto de Dios University, the Regional Autonomous Corporation of Cundinamarca (CAR) of Girardot and the National Police, ACUAGYR, environmental and ecological protection group.
“We should all echo this celebration if we want to have clean and renewable energy. Both the quality and quantity of water are issues that cannot be overlooked.”, Emmanuel Sanabria, a Systems Engineering student, expressed this.
