On May 9th, the University of Cundinamarca, as an act of gratitude to the municipal authorities of Girardot, presented an award to the mayor of this city, Cesar Fabián Villalba Acevedo, and to the council members for their commitment to public education, and especially to the academic institution.
“This recognition comes from the heart. My parents were graduates of the University of Cundinamarca, with degrees in Social Sciences. The University of Cundinamarca's 50-year history in our municipality has set precedents. All of us from Giradot share a bond with this great institution,” stated the city's mayor, Cesar. Fabian Villalba Acevedo.
For his part, Víctor Andrés Pinzón, a graduate of the University of Cundinamarca and current President of the Girardot Municipal Council, highlighted:
“The city council, at the mayor's initiative, approved additional funding for research, technological development, infrastructure strengthening, and other core mission areas, representing approximately 1,423,000,000 pesos annually. I would like to take this opportunity to ask the university rector to consider and study, together with the Governing Board, expanding the academic offerings at the Girardot campus.”.
Pinzón added: “We need the other corporations in the 115 municipalities of the Department of Cundinamarca to create the pro-development stamp for the University of Cundinamarca, and in this way, education can be strengthened in order to close the social gaps.”.
The University Rector, Adriano Muñoz Barrera, thanked the Councilors of the city of Acacias for their contribution to higher education, and also highlighted the Institution's mission management, actions that benefit 1,800 students from the Girardot branch and the Alto Magdalena province.
Local journalists from the city of Girardot also joined the recognition ceremony, highlighting the University's presence, development, and invaluable contributions to the city. Likewise, the event was attended by members of the University's Governing Council, Academic Council, directors of branch campuses and extensions, deans, staff, and members of the community.
