UCundinamarca analyzed the new challenges of the Higher Education Quality Assurance System

The Academic Vice-Rector's Office shared with the institutional community Decree 1280 of 2018, the Law that regulates the Quality Assurance System of Higher Education.

The Academic Vice-Rector, Pablo Emilio Flórez Vargas, through a workshop, socialized with the deans, directors and program coordinators, professors, students and other Udecina community, the Decree 1280 of 2018, Law that regulates the Quality Assurance System of Higher Education.

During this activity, the Academic Vice-Rector explained the importance of Decree 1280 of 2018, issued by the Ministry of National Education and effective from January 1, 2019.

University of Cundinamarca: Is quality guaranteed with the new Reference Model for Quality in Higher Education?

Pablo Emilio Flórez Vargas: Quality is never exhausted; there is always room for continuous improvement. However, the new Quality Standards model for Higher Education proposes a reorganization of activities and the way processes are carried out to continue this continuous improvement.

UC: This draft decree from the Ministry of National Education outlines fourteen unique quality conditions; what are they?

PEFV: Decree 1280 of 2018 establishes ten institutional conditions and six program quality conditions.

Two of these quality conditions are in both categories. The ten institutional quality conditions are: Students, faculty, alumni, research, well-being, institutional governance, planning and quality improvement, administrative management, infrastructure, and physical resources.

The six program quality conditions are: professors, curriculum management, educational resources, outreach, national and international interaction, and research.

UC: How is the University of Cundinamarca preparing for this new SAC policy, considering that the decree practically forces universities to become accredited?

PEFV: The University of Cundinamarca is not standing still; it is always actively pursuing continuous improvement, which includes program and institutional accreditation. In this spirit, the University is meticulous in studying the new regulations, analyzing them, and consulting with experts who work closely with the University to facilitate the transition and adaptation to these new regulations. This ensures that the University continues to achieve the goals set forth in the Development Plan, the Rector's Plan, and the Action Plan, guaranteeing that all University management efforts are geared towards achieving program accreditation.
