What is your idea to stop climate change?

This initiative, led by the Directorate of University Social Interaction (ISU), seeks to support processes of social appropriation of knowledge within the framework of Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI). Students, faculty, and graduates are eligible to participate.

This is how this important call contributes to the construction and implementation of innovative solutions, aimed at reducing the vulnerability of natural and human systems to the real or expected effects of climate change in the country's territories.

“We invite the entire university community to participate with their contributions, initiatives or projects because together we can help to stop climate change,” explained Víctor Londoño, director of social interaction.

The official explained that registrations will be open until September 15th, and that during these days the University Social Interaction mission coordination will be receiving sustainable projects related to the following challenges: Coffee: Cultivation and Home, Wi Haarves Bikaaz Wi Suo, Digital Living Environmental Classroom, Water Harvesting, Near the Morichal, Vulnerability in the Páramo, Chagra for Life!, Circular Beans, Quality Seeds, Sinú: Present and Future, Ethnicity and Development, Cooking without Destroying, A Smile in La Molana, The Joy of Water, Sovereign Territory, The Territory is Memory, A Clean Tobacco, Harmony in the Sacred Territory, Mission Flora and Life, and Transforming Lives.

Minciencias has $3.400 million to finance the 20 selected solution projects, each up to $170 million.

The process will be as follows:

The MinCiencias call for proposals will have two phases. In the first phase, community organizations from across the country will be invited to participate in identifying needs related to the effects of climate change in their territories, and the local knowledge they share as a community, in order to address these needs and contribute to their solution, explained Fernando Roa, ISU coordinator at UCundinamarca.,

The needs, problems or issues of interest to be identified must be framed within one of the following thematic lines: Risks and effects associated with climate variability and environmental pollution.

In the second phase of the call for proposals, they hope the country's scientific and innovative community will participate by proposing solutions to address, respond to, and transform the realities of communities regarding climate change mitigation and adaptation. "Research centers and institutes, technology development centers, innovation and productivity centers, research groups, science centers, technology-based startups, and highly innovative companies are all invited," Roa notes.

“Any concerns or proposals should be sent to the following email address: [email protected] . From here we will lead these initiatives.” For more information, those interested can consult the following link: https://ideasparaelcambio.minciencias.gov.co/proyecto/cambio-climatico”Londoño concluded.
