Cross-border dialogue on clinical simulation

On April 25, the international virtual forum was held with the participation of expert doctors from the National University of San Agustín of Arequipa, Peru, whose purpose was to generate a space for reflection on experiences with the clinical simulation methodology that favor the achievement of competencies in the training of future professionals in the area.

Learning through clinical simulation allows students to participate in simulated practices using software that sends commands to the simulator to recreate a patient's health condition. The thematic areas covered focused on the design of simulated environments, satisfaction with the use of clinical simulation as a tool in the training of healthcare professionals, and teaching experience in simulated practices in both fictitious and real-world settings.

“The clinical simulation that has been developed in the nursing program is articulated with MEDIT from its four axes, with main emphasis on the axis of technology; educational process, given the strong presence of digitalization in daily life, which implies rethinking learning through virtuality and the different technological devices; beyond the automation of processes of design and use of platforms,” highlights Lady Carolina Díaz Jurado, speaker at the forum, professor of the faculty of health sciences and leader of the SIPAV research group.

Dr. Rosalí Aranzamendi Paredes, a certified clinical simulation instructor from PennState Health Milton S. Hershey Medical, highlighted the clinical simulation experiences at the National University of San Agustín in Arequipa, Peru, with the aim of including simulation in the curriculum of the Faculty of Medicine (UNSA).

For his part, Dr. Hernán Barreda Tamayo, Doctor of Medicine, founder and coordinator of the Clinical Simulation Center, reflected on the center's experiences in the intra- and extra-hospital environment with clinical simulation and simulated patients.

The medical surgeon, María Alejandra Postigo Quiroa, instructor in clinical simulation at the Clinical Simulation Center of UNSA and member of the Latin American Federation of Clinical Simulation and Patient Safety presented a scheme for the design of a simulation for undergraduate teaching and its adaptation in the OSCE.

Representing the University of Cundinamarca, Professor Adriana Marcela Perdomo Martínez participated with the following presentation: Satisfaction of fourth-semester nursing students at the University of Cundinamarca regarding the use of clinical simulation as a pedagogical strategy., and the teacher Lady Carolina Díaz Jurado with the theme of training and learning experience in students of basic procedures mediated by clinical simulation.

The event was attended by the Senior Management headed by the university rector, Adriano Muñoz Barrera, the academic vice-rector and dean of the faculty of health sciences, María Eulalia Buenahora, the director of the nursing program, Sandra Patricia Carmona Urueña and the support of the internationalization office.

Comments to highlight from some national attendees and Latin American universities who followed the virtual event minute by minute.

National University of San Agustín of Arequipa

I loved the presentation. Thanks to the instructors' testimonials, I was able to learn more about clinical simulation. From a pedagogical standpoint, I find it a very interesting and productive teaching method. I'm a medical student, and I believe that simulation before working with real patients is very important, as it allows us to acquire practical knowledge. Thank you so much for organizing this event; it was a pleasure to hear about the experiences and working methods of healthcare professionals specializing in clinical simulation.

ECCI University

An excellent initiative, it managed to motivate the students of the interprofessional seedbed led by the nursing program, due to the simplicity with which the national and international speakers shared their experiences.
We participated as observers in ACOFAEN. I learned about the event through Sigma, but I'm leaving my contact information and expressing my intention to join forces and share experiences. [email protected]

University of Chubut, Argentina

It has been an extremely enriching event, allowing us to share and learn about significant experiences in clinical simulation. Congratulations!.

Catholic University of Manizales

Excellent space for us students of health sciences careers, I belong to the simulab research group of the Catholic University of Manizales and with the information from each of the speakers I was able to strengthen the components and add valuable information to my project.
Thank you for your commitment and excellent intervention.
