Contributing to corporate sustainability

By: Alejandro García Suárez – Advisory Office of Communications

Thanks to the endorsement of the Colombian Network of Research Seedbeds (REDCOLSI), two talented students from the GEICAEC research group in the Business Administration program at Facatativá have been selected to represent Colombia at the International Science and Technology Fair in Lima, Peru. The event will take place from November 24 to 28, 2025, and will bring together researchers from around the world. Their research on corporate sustainability has been recognized, which validates the quality of their work.

The project, titled “Socioeconomic Study of Activities in the Industrial Parks of the Western Savannah Province from the Perspective of Sustainable Development,” analyzes the environmental and social impact of these areas in Cundinamarca. Its objective is to identify key factors for business sustainability and propose strategies to improve practices in the industrial sector.

Yuri Tatiana Salinas Botia, one of the researchers, explained that the study focuses on validating variables that determine sustainability in Colombian organizations. “We aim to offer an effective tool for evaluating and improving business practices from environmental, social, and governance (ESG) perspectives.” She also emphasized that the expected impact is twofold: first, to help companies become more competitive, and second, to pave the way for new research in the country.

For Salinas Botia, participating in the Lima trade fair is a unique opportunity. “We want to show how Colombia can be a pioneer in developing tools for corporate sustainability. Furthermore, we hope to forge alliances with international companies and organizations interested in sustainable development,” he added.

Dary Gisseth Rivera Cuervo, co-author of the project, highlighted that the experience at REDCOLSI allowed them to receive valuable feedback from experts, which strengthened their proposal. “The greatest contribution of our work is the creation of a specific instrument to evaluate sustainability in the Colombian business sector, something that did not exist in a comprehensive way before,” she explained.

Rivera Cuervo also highlighted the support received during the process. “Having the backing of our research group and Professor Wilson Ricardo Pinillos has been fundamental. His guidance helped us structure a solid and clear presentation,” he said.

“We have used strategies such as workshops on database management, information analysis, and scientific writing. This international endorsement is a testament to what we are doing through research within the framework of the Transmodern Digital Educational Model, MEDIT,” he noted.

The research employs a mixed-methods approach, combining data analysis and expert validation. Among its findings, it highlights the need for greater investment in innovation and sustainable policies within the Colombian industrial sector.

This recognition is not only a personal achievement for the students, but also an opportunity to strengthen the University's visibility in the global academic community. Through this participation, the institution reaffirms its commitment to research and the training of professionals capable of providing innovative solutions to current challenges.

The academic and business community eagerly awaits the results of this research, which promises to be a benchmark in the field of corporate sustainability in Colombia and Latin America.
