Educating more people with values, principles, and dreams in Zipaquirá is one of the objectives of the Cundinamarca University, and that dream has already begun to materialize. Dr. Juan Carlos Torres Sandoval, director of the Zipaquirá Extension, gives us good news about the start of construction.
“The work will begin soon; the shade netting has already been put up to start laying the foundations for the new building,” said the director of the Extension, who also assured that the initial plan is for the work to last 18 months and that according to his calculations, the work will be completed in 2023.
Currently, the UCundinamarca extension at Zipaquirá offers only one program: Music. However, expanding the campus will allow for the opening of two new programs, bringing development and opportunities for young people in this municipality.
The University of Cundinamarca is developing a project to request authorization from the Ministry of Education for the new academic offerings, thus opening its doors to more young people. "By opening the two new programs, between the music program and these new ones, we would project to provide education to approximately one thousand students," stated Dr. Juan Carlos.
The land was awarded by the Municipal Administration and was handed over on February 10th, and now the next step is to wait for construction and at the same time begin the documentation to obtain authorization from the Ministry of Education to offer the programs.
Since 1999, the Zipaquirá Extension has offered the Music program, which is regionally recognized for the quality of its students, graduates, and teachers, who are dedicated to human development, values, and the strengthening of the individual.
A big bet
The lot on which the new Zipaquirá Extension headquarters will be built is 4,051 square meters. This building will have everything necessary for students and teachers to be comfortable, develop their training, and for the University to strengthen the quality of its services.
The initial investment is 21 billion pesos, and it is projected that this budget will be met during the two years the project is expected to last. Dr. Juan Carlos, director of the Extension program, stated that the project could take a minimum of 18 months, but will likely be extended for a few more months.
The new commitment of UCundinamarca is to provide the inhabitants of Zipaquirá and its surroundings with a broader academic offering, according to their needs; currently there is the Music program and plans are underway to open Psychology and a Spanish-English Bachelor's degree.
