Connected to FLISoL 2026 LATAM

By: Alejandro García Suárez – Advisory Office of Communications

The Faculty of Engineering is linked to an international experience that brings together thousands of people in Latin America, the Latin American Free Software Installation Festival (FLISoL) 2026, a space that promotes open knowledge, innovation and collaborative work.

Through the Systems and Computing Engineering program, the institution participates annually in this event, considered the largest dissemination of free software and culture in the region and open to all types of audiences.

According to Rafael Arturo Suárez Velasco, Knowledge and Learning Manager of the program and leader of the event, the main objective of FLISoL 2026 at the Fusagasugá headquarters, which will take place on May 15, and at the Girardot branch on May 16, is to promote the use of free software through free assisted installations on the participants' computers.

The initiative aims to raise awareness of the philosophy and advantages of free software, promoting its four essential freedoms in an educational, collaborative, and accessible environment. The program will include talks, workshops, and presentations on local and Latin American topics in academic, artistic, and business settings.

In its 22nd edition, the festival will address current topics such as free software with Artificial Intelligence, Open Hardware and Free Culture, highlighting the importance of technological autonomy, user privacy and sustainable development.

The event will feature the participation of students, graduates, and guests from different regions of the country, establishing itself as a space for the exchange of knowledge and experiences.

Furthermore, the organizing team announced that FLISoL 2026 is open to students, teachers, businesspeople, public officials, and the general public, with no prior knowledge required. Participation is free, and those who wish to install free software can do so by bringing their own computer, following the established protocols.

The organization extends an invitation to the community to follow the University's official social media channels and to visit the FLISoL Colombia website to learn about the complete schedule of speakers and workshops.

This initiative, in connection with the Transmodern Digital Educational Model (MEDIT), demonstrates how knowledge is transformed into action, promoting innovation, critical thinking and commitment to sustainable development through the use of open technologies.
