Congress

Between October 9 and 10, the International Congress on Sport and Post-Conflict will take place with the participation of representatives from universities such as: Fernando Laverde, Rector of the Andean Area University Foundation; Orlando Blanco Zúñiga, Academic Vice-Rector of the University of Cundinamarca; Marlene Aguirre, Dean of the Faculty of Education of the Free University of Colombia; Luis Alberto Rodríguez, Coordinator of the Bachelor's Degree in Sport of the National Pedagogical University; Sandra Morales, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences of the National Open and Distance University, Unad, and Diego Corredor, President of the Colombian Association of Physical Education Teachers.

Representatives of the higher education institutions involved and the unionized physical education teachers presented to the country their perceptions on the contributions of sport in the post-conflict period, which followed the signing of the peace agreements between the Government and the FARC guerrillas.

For his part, the manager of the Colombian Olympic Committee, Armando Farfán Peña, highlighted the importance of the event that once again unites "academia with physical activity, which will set a precedent in our history, due to the delicate current situation in our country," he emphasized.

The leader referred to two principles enshrined in the Olympic Charter, which are related to the central theme of the Congress: “First, Olympism is a philosophy of life, which exalts and combines in a harmonious whole the qualities of body, will and spirit.

By associating sport with culture and education, Olympism aims to create a lifestyle based on the joy of effort, the educational value of good example, and respect for fundamental universal ethical principles. Secondly, the goal of Olympism is to always place sport at the service of the harmonious development of humankind, in order to foster the establishment of a peaceful society committed to upholding human dignity.
