The UCundinamarca Sports Club excelled at the national event “Gran Fondito de Mariana Pajón 2025,” held on October 11 and 12 in Barranquilla, Atlántico. The delegation of 14 athletes in mountain biking, push biking, running, and skating demonstrated commitment, discipline, and a strong sense of belonging to the university.
Carlos Andrés Lote Pérez, coach of the children's cycling team, stated that the participation yielded outstanding figures: 10 athletes qualified for the finals and 7 conquered the podium in a competition that brought together hundreds of children and young people from all over the country, consolidating itself as a space for meeting, integration and national sports projection.
He added that in Running, Tomás Villamil López dominated the 10-year-old category with a gold medal, while Diego Andrés Piragua achieved fourth place in the 6-year-old category. In Recreational Skating, Sara Tovar Navarrete won silver in the 11-14 age category, standing out among the best skaters in the country.
The MTB Children's category was the most successful with four gold medals: Mariana Cañón Castro, Miguel Velásquez Correa, and Tomás Villamil López dominated their respective categories. Diego Andrés Piragua and Mía Morales Pacheco won bronze medals, while Juanita Herrera finished in 24th place.
In Push Bike, Numar José Bueno Villamil stood out with a sixth-place finish in the 2020 category, followed by Samuel Julián Mendoza in eighth place. María Paz Gómez Restrepo achieved 18th place, demonstrating the potential of the club's youngest members.
Lote Pérez, the lead coach, noted that “the competitions took place on asphalt tracks in a circuit format, with tight turns and acceleration zones that demanded excellent technical control, balance, and concentration.” The level of competition was high, with experienced athletes from various regions. The intense heat and humidity of Barranquilla presented an additional challenge that required proper hydration and physical management.
Furthermore, the coach indicated that the success was made possible by the support of parents and guardians who provided guidance, ensuring the well-being and motivation of the participants. The process was supported by coach Juan Camilo Ramírez Lugo (director of CAD Stages) and the administrative team of the Academic Sports Center.
“The athletes responded with strength, technical skills and great sportsmanship, demonstrating the progress of the comprehensive training process of the Academic Sports Center,” Lote Pérez highlighted.
This participation represents a milestone for the UCundinamarca Sports Club, solidifying its presence in high-level national events. The seven podium finishes reflect not only the competitive level achieved, but also the quality of the pedagogical, technical, and human work of the coaches and the institutional team.
The Academic Sports Center, CAD, continues to strengthen the processes of sports initiation and training, promoting sports as a tool for growth, coexistence and social transformation.
The children's cycling, running, and skating teams continue their training with a view to achieving the best results in the upcoming national competitions, consolidating the path towards sporting excellence that characterizes the UCundinamarca Club.
