This week, maintenance work was completed on the coliseum at the Soacha campus. The Office of Physical Resources delivered the restored facilities after two months of work, allowing various university sports and wellness activities to continue.
It is important to mention that this intervention to the coliseum of our extension was achieved by complying with the Physical Plant Maintenance and Conservation Program approved by the Administrative Directorate of the extension, validity 2022.
“Corrective and preventive maintenance was carried out on the soccer field, an activity in which the maintenance and general services group worked between April and May. This included the marking of fields, goals, scoreboards and posts,” said Martín Clavijo Vanegas, manager of the Public Resources Office of the University of Cundinamarca.
Similarly, the deteriorating plastic roof tiles of the coliseum were replaced. “This also involved strict control of birds that had nested on the coliseum roof,” explains Martín Clavijo, for whom this intervention represents an improvement in the quality of life for the university's athletes.
However, these improvements wouldn't have been possible in two months without another investment from the University in the Office of Physical Resources. “Now we have new equipment, such as an electric hoist that allows us to maintain roofs and carry out other restoration and improvement work at different heights. This makes our work much easier,” Clavijo says.
Which sports are returning to the coliseum?
Following the improvements made by the Physical Resources Office, the following sports are once again available at the Soacha extension: futsal, tennis, and basketball. All three now have goals and backboards ready for competitions and training.
For more information on how to participate in these sports activities, you can contact the University Welfare office at the Soacha extension, where you can also learn about other environmental and cultural initiatives that are linked to our Transmodern Digital Educational Model (MEDIT).
“We remain committed to continuously improving facilities like our coliseum to best support the educational process of our entire community, especially our students. We also ask for their help in using these spaces responsibly,” concludes Martín Clavijo.
