IDDS 2017 Closing Ceremony

Ten prototypes for climate change adaptation were presented at the closing of IDDS 2017

The 17 days of co-creation, coexistence, and teamwork for the 60 participants of the IDDS 2017 at the facilities of the University of Cundinamarca, through a fair in which 10 prototypes made with low-cost technologies were presented for the adaptation to climate change of the communities of Sumapaz and Alto Magdalena.

“Many of the proposals focused on water management and the use of this resource,” said Jairo Alexis Rodríguez, director of Research and Extension at the Bogotá campus of the National University of Colombia, who added that this summit was an opportune space to present real solutions to environmental problems from academia, specifically from research.

In turn, Luz Angélica Vizcaíno, General Secretary of the University of Cundinamarca, highlighted the importance of teamwork between institutions and communities to support the development of the department and rural communities.

“These 17 days were an enriching experience on a personal and professional level. They also motivated me to be committed to the changes the world needs,” said Vivian Jiménez, a participant from Costa Rica.

For Alex Freese, director of C-Innova, this summit concludes with the participation of more than 50 guests from the communities, who will offer their opinions and evaluations of the prototypes developed. “They are the ones who will truly determine whether these prototypes are suitable or meet the requirements to address the specific problems they face in rural areas,” he emphasized.

“The development and growth process of each of the organizers and participants during this summit will leave an indelible mark that will transform their environments,” said Ammy Smith, creator of IDDS.
