The University of Cundinamarca will carry out the student characterization process for the 2022-I academic period, and below we address the questions that may arise.
Is this characterization stage aimed at all students?
No, the process the institution will carry out only includes new (admitted) students, returning students who have not yet been registered, transfers, and readmissions. Students who were registered in the previous stage and were validated do not need to complete this process.
What dates are being considered for the characterization process?
The process will be divided into two parts as follows:
1. From December 6 to 13, 2021: new students (regularly admitted), former students not yet registered, transfers and readmissions can be registered.
2. From January 13 to 15, 2022: new students may be characterized under the figure of optional applicant.
How is the characterization performed?
New students will receive an email with a link to access the profile. Students who have not yet completed the profile, as well as transfers and readmissions, can do so by accessing their institutional platform and clicking on the institutional profile icon. The following link provides a step-by-step video with general instructions for the modules and questions included in the survey. New students will not access the platform directly; they will use the link sent to their emails. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4pl9wKwKYcw
What happens if a student does not complete the characterization form?
The characterization process is a tool through which the institution gathers information about its stakeholders, strengthens its institutional capacity, and generates actions that address their needs and implement targeted, timely, relevant, and effective strategies. This tool is also being used to validate students' socioeconomic status and address information for eligibility for free tuition. Therefore, students who do not complete the characterization process will not be eligible for the program and will be required to pay the 100% fee of their tuition.
What information should I have on hand for the characterization?
In the case of admitted students, the following must be provided:
• Current utility bill (last 6 months) that corresponds to the address and socioeconomic stratum information you registered at the time of registration.
• Documents that support membership in a vulnerable population.
Note: Document with an issue date no more than one year old.
• Diplomas and certificates of previous studies.
For returning students not yet registered, readmissions, and transfers, the same documents mentioned above must be uploaded as appropriate.
What happens if I fill out the characterization form, but don't attach the corresponding supporting documents?
The documents requested are those that allow verification that the information provided by the student is truthful and are the validation mechanism established by UCundinamarca for this process.
Thus, in the specific case of zero tuition, students who claim to be from stratum 1, 2 or 3 and have not uploaded the corresponding document, will not be eligible for the benefit.
Similarly, those who belong to a vulnerable population and do not support it with the requested documents will not be considered as a priority population.
What happens if in the characterization I filled out that I am stratum 3 and I have a receipt for stratum 4?
During the validation process, the information reported in the student profile for returning students and in the registration form for new (admitted) students will be considered to validate the uploaded supporting documents. In this case, the profile will be denied, an informational email will be sent, and the application will be enabled so the student can make the necessary corrections. If no adjustments are made, the profile will remain denied, and the student will not be eligible for benefits such as tuition waivers.
What happens if the address on the receipt does not match the one reported in the characterization?
During the validation process, the information reported in the student profile for returning students and in the registration form for new (admitted) students will be considered to validate the uploaded supporting documents. In the specific case referred to in the question, the student profile will be denied, an informational email will be sent, and the application will be enabled so the student can make the necessary corrections. If the student profile is denied at the time of payment processing, the student will not be eligible for the zero-tuition benefit.
What other document besides a utility bill can support the address and socioeconomic stratum?
It is suggested that a utility bill be uploaded. However, other documents will also be valid, such as a certificate of residence issued by the Community Action Board, confirming that the student resides at the address provided, or other documents issued by the Municipal Planning Department.
What about returning students who want to update their characterization information?
The Systems and Technology Office made available to the university community the possibility of requesting information updates through a SIS directly from the institutional platform.
To carry out this process, the following is required:
• JAC RESIDENCE CERTIFICATE.
• A current utility bill (last 6 months).
• Sworn statement supporting the related information.
What does vulnerable population mean?
A group of people who are vulnerable or incapable of responding to threats to their psychological, physical, and mental well-being, among other factors. In the educational field, this term refers to the population group traditionally excluded from the educational system due to their specific characteristics or socioeconomic reasons.
These groups include: people with disabilities; Black, Afro-Colombian, Raizal and Palenquera (NARP) populations; victims of the armed conflict; demobilized population in the process of reintegration; among others.
Where can I contact if I have problems with the characterization?
