Since 2005, the Alejandro Ángel Escobar Foundation (FAAE) has supported Colombian university students through the Colombia Biodiversa scholarship, an incentive that this year will provide up to 3 million pesos to help them develop their undergraduate theses. “The purpose of the Colombia Biodiversa Scholarship Fund is to promote research on Colombian biodiversity across all areas of knowledge,” the Foundation states. This year, in addition to the Colombia Biodiversa Scholarships, which are aimed at students of biological sciences and related fields to support their undergraduate thesis on knowledge, conservation and sustainable use of Colombia's biodiversity, two more incentives will be opened.
One is a scholarship for students in fields other than biological sciences—such as Social Sciences and Humanities, Arts, Design, and Engineering—and the other consists of three scholarships specifically to support undergraduate theses on wild flora and fauna associated with floriculture agroecosystems. This support is provided in conjunction with the Sustainability Route Program of the agreement with Asocolflores. Colombian students enrolled in an undergraduate or master's program, whether recognized in Colombia or at a foreign university, are eligible to apply for financial aid. Interested applicants must complete a form that will be available between July 26 and October 8. (Read also: Due to environmental factors, Colombians lose 3.3 years of life per year)
However, FAAE explains, “applicants who have participated in a previous call for applications will not be able to register again in the same category. Only proposals from students who previously applied at the undergraduate level and are currently applying for a master's scholarship will be accepted.”.
