The Director of Research and Extension at the Bogotá headquarters, Dr. Jairo Alexis Rodríguez López highlighted the progress of the agreement and the support being provided by the National University., “The Ministry of National Education recently highlighted the academic and research work being carried out by the National University with the University of Cundinamarca. The Ministry indicated that this work should be replicated in other universities across the country with a strong research track record, so that they can support and encourage other departmental universities. The work being done with the University of Cundinamarca is an example to follow.”.
The activity focused on understanding the basic principles of intellectual property (copyright and industrial property), referring to the tools for searching for scientific and technological information, as well as describing the processes through which knowledge transfer is properly managed.
The reason for starting with this topic is the need to recognize the creativity of researchers, and of the academic community, as a transversal axis to all university activities, an action that generates value since it is associated with the rights that promote the exchange and transfer of knowledge, without forgetting that it is also a function of these rights to understand, respect and take advantage of the knowledge generated in order to preserve and produce new knowledge.
Dr. Farly Andrea León Maz, coordinator of the framework agreement signed between the National University and the University of Cundinamarca, gave a positive assessment of the academic day: “The workshop allows us to establish guidelines for the identification, protection, valuation and transfer of intellectual property assets, in order to create knowledge transfer offices within our university.”. He also indicated that new academic, research and outreach activities will soon be developed between the institutions.
The academic event was attended by the Rector of the University of Cundinamarca, Dr. Adriano Muñoz Barrera, and Dr. Jairo Alexis Rodríguez López, Director of Research and Extension at the Bogotá campus, and Dr. Diego Alejandro Torres Galindo, Head of the Extension Division at the Bogotá campus of the National University. Also present were the Academic Vice-Rector, Orlando Blanco Zúñiga; the University's Director of Research, José Zacarías Mayorga Sánchez; the directors of each of the University of Cundinamarca's branches and extensions; and other officials from the institution's core and strategic processes, all of whom actively participated in the academic session.
The workshops were conducted by expert professionals belonging to the Knowledge Transfer team of the Research and Extension Directorate of the National University: Engineer Jaime Hernando Mayorga Pinzón, Intellectual Property Advisor; Engineer Aida Mayerly Fúquene Montañez, Coordinator of the Knowledge Transfer Team and lawyer Laura Victoria Camacho Castellanos, legal advisor.
