We will increase funding for the University of Cundinamarca: Governor Jorge Emilio Rey

The investment would be close to $3 billion by the department to strengthen the accreditation and research processes of the University.

Through different sessions of the Academic Council, the senior management of the University of Cundinamarca has been working jointly and permanently with the student leaders of the Institution to address the requests, concerns and requirements of the educational community with the purpose of lifting the cessation of academic activities and normalizing the semester.

Amid these various meetings, a working group meeting was held at the Cundinamarca Governor's Office, chaired by the departmental governor, Jorge Emilio Rey; members of the Education Secretariat, the University's senior management, and student leaders, who agreed to work on a common agenda to strengthen the Institution's pedagogical and administrative work for the benefit of the academic community and the people of Cundinamarca.

“We want to inform the community that we plan to increase the resources transferred from the department to the University from 0.5 to 1.5 percent, reaching approximately 1.4 billion pesos in investment, in order to boost accreditation and research processes. We will present this initiative to the Cundinamarca Assembly for ordinance review.”, said the governor, Jorge Emilio Rey.

During his meeting with directors and student representatives from the University of Cundinamarca, the governor added: “Our administration is always aimed at transforming the lives of the people of Cundinamarca, and we are clear that defending public universities is a permanent goal. Therefore, the additional resources that will be committed will guarantee vital financial leverage to make this institution a high-quality, competitive, and nationally recognized training center.”.

These resources are vital for the institution to advance its mission and financial management processes. This funding will allow it to address the challenges of insufficient resources related to the outdated contributions made by the Ministry of National Education to the University of Cundinamarca, which are based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

It should be noted that the claim made by the Institution to the Nation for the transfers from 1993 and 1994 owed by the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit to the UdeC will contribute to the accreditation of academic programs, increase the teaching staff, build and adapt infrastructure works, strengthen research, among other issues of great relevance to academia and of interest to students.

In 2014 the Departmental Assembly reduced the percentage of the Pro-development stamp for the University of Cundinamarca from 1.5% to 0.5%.
