The International Baccalaureate (IB) Organization, in partnership with the People's University, made an important announcement for the education sector, stating that it is necessary to meet the global need for teachers, which amounts to more than 69 million teaching positions by the year 2030.
According to UNESCO, teachers represent one of the strongest and most influential forces for ensuring equity, access, and quality in education. They are key to sustainable global development. However, their training, recruitment, tenure, status, and working conditions remain a source of concern.
In fact, this United Nations office observed that there is a shortage of properly trained teachers worldwide.
Regarding teacher training, UNESCO recommends:
-Monitoring of international regulatory instruments on teaching.
-Support to Member States in the development and review of their policies and strategies relating to teachers.
-Development of capacities to increase the quality of teaching and learning.
-Improvement of knowledge and factual basis for the application and monitoring of the goal on teachers within the 2030 Education Agenda.
-Promotion and exchange of knowledge with a view to promoting quality teaching and learning.
At the University of Cundinamarca, we are aware of the need for excellent teacher training, which is why we have the School of Teacher Training and Learning. Our objective is to qualify teachers as managers of knowledge and learning, developing a set of processes and strategies within the framework of training, innovation, and evaluation, aimed at the continuous improvement of educational practice, teacher performance, and student learning.
We also offer a Master's degree in Education with an emphasis on Environmental Education and social media. The program is based on five theoretical pillars: Pedagogical Mediation, Ecological Paradigm, Sustainability and Development, Sociocultural Perspective, Social Polygraphy, and Eco-Pedagogy for Coexistence.
