This is how the election day for the human rights committee went.

The election began with the formal setup of the polling stations by the poll workers, under the supervision of the oversight bodies. The official opening then commenced at 9:00 a.m. and continued until 8:00 p.m., with the exception of the Soacha and Zipaquirá campuses, where the polls closed at 5:00 p.m., the end of the academic day.

Throughout the day, the attendance of the students was observed, who looked on the bulletin boards that were set up for that purpose, for the table where they were to vote.

For Andrés Felipe Urrego, a Systems and Computer Engineering student from Fusagasugá who participated in these elections, the activation of this committee is very important. “I think it’s a great idea because it will help defend human rights within the University of Cundinamarca, which shows immense progress in a country like Colombia, where this issue is very sensitive.”.

According to Dr. Juan Carlos Torres Sandoval, administrative director of the Chía extension, this election is of great importance. “This day was key, as it reaffirms the University of Cundinamarca's commitment to the defense of human rights by consolidating this committee. That's why yesterday we were supporting the students in these elections, which proceeded without incident.”.

On the other hand, the general secretary, Dr. Isabel Quintero Uribe, stated that this participatory body “aims to generate mechanisms for the protection of human rights, while also contributing to the construction of a culture of peace through non-violence, truth, justice, reconciliation, multiculturalism, solidarity, human rights and respect for the environment at the University of Cundinamarca.”.

It is worth noting that this process, which began on October 31st with the publication of the call for applications on the website, had as candidates Laura Daniela Díaz and her alternate, Laura Yolima Tapias, Patricia Sánchez and her alternate, Juan Pablo Mejía, David Andrés Pulido and his alternate Jeison Enrique Forero, who met the legal requirements demanded by the institution.

Finally, the vote count and results will be released on November 28th, and those elected will have a one-year term in this position.
