The uses, meanings, artistic expressions, and technologies that emerge around the digital world are what is known today as cyberculture, a fundamental concept for understanding the 21st century, as an era in the history of humanity marked by the massification of information and communication technologies (ICT).
Of course, the University of Cundinamarca, which has implemented the Transmodern Digital Educational Model (MEDIT), is one of those interested in celebrating this cultural expression, so on March 29, with the Faculty of Engineering as host, Cyberculture Day was celebrated.
What did this activity consist of? First, Cyberculture Day was planned taking into account the Cyberculture learning field, "where the different dimensions of MEDIT converge, allowing all engineering students, from all campuses, to participate in activities and presentations related to emerging technologies that have a social and transnational purpose," said Professor Yudy Narváez, a teacher attached to the Technology and Software Development program for three years.
It is worth mentioning that, according to MEDIT, “the field of cyberculture learning seeks the development of a virtual and digital society, with values and principles, that allow the efficient management of information through the use of new technologies, promoting training for life, highlighting the cultural aspects of one's own and transferring knowledge towards the continuous improvement of being.”.
In that regard, Cyberculture Day consisted of a nearly six-hour program with international guests, especially from the National Technological Institute of Mexico. Presentations were also held as part of this event in the auditorium of the Soacha extension, in the software room, in the library, and in the HASS laboratory.
These were some of the activities that took place within the framework of the Cyberculture Day at the University of Cundinamarca: 'Presentation on cloud computing with Amazon Web Services', by Dr. Carlos Montenegro, 'Presentation on Happiness Management', by Dr. Julio Perea, from the postgraduate department of ECCI University, 'Presentation on Artificial Intelligence, tools of today – Machine learning to predict the weather', by engineer César Romero, 'Ecosystem of eSports', by engineer Daniel Camacho Vargas, 'Why does artificial intelligence open the doors to the metaverse?', by engineer Leyla Cuellar, Chief Executive of Officer HADO Colombia, 'Electrical variable monitoring system using virtual instrumentation for industrial electrical systems', by Professor José Armando Lara from the Lázara Cárdenas Technological Institute, Mexico.
During this event, Professor Narváez highlighted the participation of HADO Colombia, a company promoting one of the world's first digital sports in the country, combining augmented reality and competitive physical activity. "We successfully engaged the students in this activity, which involves video games and sports, two fields that particularly interest them. It's important to mention that this sport has a world championship held in Tokyo, Japan," the professor noted.
Similarly, Cyberculture Day also served to highlight new concepts and emerging technologies within the digital world. “For example, we talked about the Internet of Things, which is a very striking technology because it deals with the information collected from our appliances or devices that connect to the Internet and produce data used to make and design better decisions for users, generating algorithms,” the teacher explains.
Finally, both the professor and the Faculty of Engineering acknowledged the vital role of the students during Cyberculture Day. “They were essential to the event because they helped us with the logistics and with the live streams through our microsite. They truly deserve all our recognition,” said the professor, who hopes to organize more events focused on technology and knowledge like this one.
