List of applications for patient tracking

The initiative, developed in conjunction with the National University and called "Design of an integrated monitoring system for inhabitants of rural areas of Soacha who require elective perioperative processes," presented on May 12th the fully completed technological tool thanks to the work of students Jhonatan Becerra and Michael Estiven Acero from the Software Development Technology program who developed the application as part of their graduation project.

According to Professor Yudy Narváez, leader of the project for UCundinamarca, “with this tool, a person living in the rural area of the municipality can report their symptoms to a health professional via voice or text through the application.”.

But this important work and its achievements don't end there. “In this system, symptoms are associated with one or more pathologies, which the patient reports. If these symptoms exceed a certain threshold in a 60% form, the system stores the pathology and alerts the patient, indicating that they should see a doctor. A total of eleven pathologies were incorporated into the system based on a statistical analysis of their frequency in rural areas.”.

It also includes a connectivity map. “This allows people without internet service to find a free hotspot near their home, such as a park, where they can connect and send their symptoms through the app.”.

This system can also work offline. “The patient reports what they are feeling, and once connected to the network, it takes all the information, including the time it was reported, and sends it, which is key for the doctor to know the real evolution of the disease from its onset.”.

To reach this important phase, the project had to undergo pilot testing. “We conducted these tests at the Mario Gaitán Yanguas Hospital with patients, and this allowed us to make adjustments to the project.”.

It is worth highlighting that Dr. Rosibel Prietos, who directs this research on behalf of the National University, and the following research groups have collaborated in this investigation: PERIOPERATORIO from the Nursing Faculty of said institution, the CRESER research group from the Humanities Faculty of the University of Cundinamarca, the GINDESOFT research group from the Engineering Faculty, along with the INFOSOFT research seedbed of the Technology and Software Development Program.

In this way, UCundinamarca, through its university social interaction and research policy, works with communities to socially build knowledge, generate improvements and transformations within them to achieve a better quality of life for the communities in its environment.
