In an interview with the UCundinamarca News Agency, Dr. Sandra Patricia Varela Londoño, director of the Postgraduate Institute at the University of Cundinamarca, shared the Institute's growth and academic offerings. With a clear vision of excellence, Varela Londoño highlighted the programs currently undergoing quality assurance verification and the educational offerings designed to meet the needs of the job market.
The Master's program in Environmental Management for Sustainable Development, the specialization in Zoogenetic Resources, and the undergraduate program in Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science (Ubaté campus) are just some of the programs currently seeking accreditation from the Ministry of National Education. “We are receiving weekly visits from academic peers to develop new programs that will strengthen our Graduate Institute and meet the needs of today's professionals.”.
Currently, the Institute offers two on-campus programs: the Doctorate in Education, with annual enrollment, and a specialization in Management available at all University campuses. In addition, new online specializations have been launched in three key areas of knowledge. In Education, the Institute offers a Specialization in Environmental Education for Community Development; in Administrative and Accounting Sciences, four programs have been launched: Applied Business Analytics, Digital Marketing, Public Management, and Digital Transformation. In the field of Agricultural Sciences, specializations are offered in Nutrition and Feeding of Non-Conventional Animal Species, Agroecology and Agro-ecotourism Development, and Sustainable Agribusiness, all starting in the second academic period of 2024.
Dr. Varela Londoño also anticipated the imminent arrival of academic peers to evaluate several programs, including the Master's in Public Health, as well as specializations in Financial and Accounting Management, Tax Management, Disaster Risk Management and Environmental Territorial Planning, in addition to new initiatives in Digital Marketing, Operations Logistics and Physical Activity and Disability.
An innovative aspect of the Institute is its recent transformation, which went from being a directorate to having complete autonomy as a Postgraduate Institute, according to Agreement 014 of 2021. This new organizational structure gives them the ability to develop their regulations and business model, always remaining aligned with the quality that characterizes the University.
“We have conducted feasibility studies that allow us to identify the programs most in demand by the job market,” the director stated, adding that the 73% students currently enrolled are professionals who require flexible learning options to continue their education. Therefore, the online offerings have been prioritized, allowing students to access training from anywhere and at convenient times.
Furthermore, in the face of technological advancements and the emergence of artificial intelligence, the Institute aims to be at the forefront of contemporary education. “Our educators must become allies of technology, and that is why we recently offered an artificial intelligence course for innovative educators. This course seeks to empower them so that they, in turn, can teach students how to use AI effectively,” concluded Varela Londoño.
With this strategic and adaptive approach, the Postgraduate Institute of the University of Cundinamarca positions itself as a benchmark in higher education, committed to quality, innovation and the professional development of its academic community.
