The University of Cundinamarca, in its firm purpose of improving education, learning and the exchange of knowledge between teachers and students, will put into operation from this Friday, March 29, a new Agro-environmental Unit of the Center for Agro-environmental Studies.
The El Vergel Agro-environmental Unit, Facatativá Extension, will be the new student learning field where laboratories of soils, morphophysiology of plant taxonomy, topography, among other areas related to environmental and forestry production will operate.
This new academic, experiential and experimental space will also serve as a practice center for the creation and appropriation of knowledge by students of the Agronomic Engineering, Environmental Engineering Extension programs and other areas that make up the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences.
“The importance of these academic spaces lies in providing direct and legal access to calls for proposals from the Centers for Agro-environmental Studies. Furthermore, it will allow these agro-environmental units to become training, education, and learning centers in the future, promoting science, technology, and innovation within the university community for the benefit of our young students, the rural population of Cundinamarca, and, indeed, other regions of the country.”, Vilma Moreno Melo, Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, pointed this out.
The new academic unit that is becoming operational in the municipality of Facatativá, has a plot of land of 18.8 hectares that is surrounded by water sources that makes it suitable for the development and diversity of cultivation in cold climates.
The El Vergel Agro-environmental Unit will be the new academic space that the Center for Agro-environmental Studies of the University of Cundinamarca makes available to its students and that joins the La Esperanza unit of the Fusagasugá Campus and El Tibar of the Ubaté Branch.
The mission of this new center will be to expand multidimensional learning, experimentation, research and knowledge transfer in sustainable agricultural, forestry, environmental and related production and consumption systems.
*The Center for Agro-environmental Studies was created through Agreement No. 000006 of the Academic Council.
