The UCundinamarca Sports Club had an outstanding participation in the 2026 Departmental Ranking Final of Speed Skating, held on August 22 and 23 in Funza, Cundinamarca, an event organized by the Cundinamarca Skating League. The delegation was made up of 16 athletes who demonstrated discipline, commitment and a high competitive level in each of the events contested.

During the competition, the skaters managed to reach the podium on multiple occasions, achieving a total of 25 medals: 9 gold, 10 silver and 7 bronze, results that reflect the strengthening of the sports and training processes carried out by the institution.

According to Manuel Antonio Hernández Serpa, the skating team's coach, participation in these types of competitions allows them to gauge the athletes' competitive level and strengthen fundamental technical aspects for upcoming challenges on the sports calendar. "The results demonstrate the commitment and dedication of our athletes, as well as the consistent work they've been doing in training," he emphasized.

Among the most outstanding performances were those of Juan Diego Ospina, who won a gold medal and several silver medals; David Santiago Muñoz Martínez, gold medalist in the 200-meter sprint; and athletes Keyla Sofía Moya Fajardo and Mariana Rodríguez Cleves, who delivered one of the best performances of the championship in the 13-year-old category, earning several gold and silver medals. Sarah Sophia Chacón Benavides and Mía Isabella Ríos Castillo also shone, achieving significant results in the skills and speed events.

The good collective performance allowed the UCundinamarca club to obtain second place in the general medal classification of the Transition category of the Cundinamarca Skating League, an achievement that confirms the growth and competitive projection of the institutional sports club.

In addition to the medals won, the participation in Funza provided valuable experiences for the athletes, who faced tests of speed, skill and endurance, strengthening abilities such as reaction, resistance, race strategy and competitive response in high-level scenarios.

Achievements like this demonstrate how sport is consolidating itself as a scenario for learning, transformation and personal growth that strengthens the university experience and projects institutional talent in regional and national scenarios.
