Accounting Clinic, a space for the Community

By Carolina Rojas Cendales – Communications Advisory Office

UCundinamarca, in its commitment to strengthen University Social Interaction and comply with the dimensions of the Transmodern Digital Educational Model (MEDIT), has consolidated an alliance with the DIAN (National Directorate of Taxes and Customs). y the NAF (Fiscal and Accounting Support Center). This agreement, in effect since 2019, allows interaction between the community in general, the academic staff and the ninth semester students of the Public Accounting program of the Ubaté branch, who lead this space for training and advice.

The main objective of the Accounting Clinic is to provide accounting and tax advice to the residents of the Cundinamarca department. “Our key players are the ninth-semester students and the wider community, as they are the foundation of this agreement, creating genuine interaction and mutual benefit that yields effective results,” stated Milton Bravo, Knowledge and Learning Manager and leader of the Accounting Clinic. This initiative allows students to develop professional skills in accounting, tax, and fiscal matters, interacting in real time with users from the region and nationwide. These users register to receive free guidance and advice on their tax needs.

The most frequent services offered by the office include: tax and fiscal advice, RUT registration and updates, income tax returns for individuals and legal entities, electronic invoicing and payroll, and accounting, financial, and legal consulting. “While most consultations are related to tax matters due to the agreement with the DIAN (National Tax and Customs Directorate), we also provide advice on other accounting and financial issues,” added Milton Bravo..

The Accounting Clinic not only offers personalized advice but also organizes talks and training sessions for the wider community. In addition, it has a presence on the DIAN's Muisca platform, facilitating interaction and access to digital tools for citizens. "We reach the community not only through the branch office but also through the municipal radio station, where we disseminate information and answer questions about entrepreneurship and key tax concepts," Bravo stated.

Students in the Public Accounting program have been providing this service to entrepreneurs, business owners, professionals, graduates, students, and the community at large, receiving a very positive response and a high level of favorable feedback. The consultations are held every Tuesday and Wednesday at the Ubaté branch and are completely free of charge..

Next Wednesday, March 12, the DIAN will set up a Mobile Point in the Ubaté branch, where it will offer: support, assistance and tax guidance, RUT registration and updates, training in electronic invoicing and electronic payroll, and a conference on electronic invoicing. “This will be a key space to demonstrate the possibility of establishing a physical DIAN (National Tax and Customs Directorate) office in our municipality,” Milton Bravo emphasized..
