A blend of passion, innovation, and values

With the aim of training engineers with skills to work in transdisciplinary teams and contribute to the solution of technological challenges at the local, national and global level, from a translocal and transmodern approach, the Systems and Computing Engineering program of Ubaté, held on February 22, the First Provincial Robotics Meeting: “Skady Fest, a Significant Experience in Knowledge Management”.

The project was born under the initiative of a student of the Systems and Computing Engineering program of Ubaté who, passionate about technology and innovation, founded the women's robotics club "SKADI FEST" at her former educational institution.

The activity brought together different educational institutions in the municipality, which shared experiences of science and technology projects at the fairs they held in their establishments.

Yeny Liliana Casas Méndez, coordinator of the Systems and Computing Engineering program at the Ubaté campus, stated that, “SKADI FEST included activities that fostered collaboration, innovation, and inclusion through different artistic expressions. From programming Microbit boards to creating drawing robots with Lego, this initiative promoted learning and fun through technology.”.

Furthermore, he added that the Transmodern Digital Educational Model, MEDIT, materialized in this project, as the students transcended the classroom and took it to the local and regional context, overcoming barriers to become something translocal.

It is worth noting that the program coordinator indicated that from the moment students enter the institution, they bring a conception of important values, such as responsibility, and in this experience we can say that MEDIT was put into action, since it demonstrated the importance of punctuality, organization and teamwork in each of the activities that were part of the meeting.

With a passion for robotics

Jennsi Dayana Suárez Páez, a fourth-semester student in the Systems and Computer Engineering program at Ubaté University, has distinguished herself as a pioneer in developing science and technology projects in collaboration with schools, promoting the connection between secondary and higher education. During her time in high school, she led an innovative project that provided support to farmers in the province of Ubaté through technology, creating the website “Emprendimientos Ubaté” to help local farmers sell their products during the pandemic.

Her initiative was presented at the science, technology, and innovation fair in the municipality of Ubaté, where it was recognized as the best innovative proposal. This achievement allowed her to join the “LINX” team, which participated in the “First Lego League” competition, standing out at the regional and national levels.

Jennsi commented on the importance of the regional event as preparation for the national competition in Bogotá, where all projects are presented and evaluated nationwide before the final robotics competition. She highlighted the support received from the University of Cundinamarca, thanking the coordinators for their guidance, support, and motivation.

The student sent a message of motivation to the other students, urging them to persevere with their projects and seek the necessary support to bring their ideas to fruition. She emphasized the importance of listening to advice and working as a team to achieve their goals.
