500 people served thanks to alliance with the DIAN

Basic guidance on tax matters, tax obligations, updating the Single Taxpayer Registry (RUT), electronic invoicing and electronic payroll for companies are some of the topics on which students have been advising the internal and external community of the University for two years, thanks to the alliance with the DIAN.

This activity has been carried out through the Accounting and Tax Support Centers (NAF) with ninth semester Public Accounting students with the support of teacher Aquiles Plata.

“We have been working with students who are finishing their degrees, benefiting different users. The University provided an office for this work, which reports directly to the DIAN (Colombian Tax and Customs National Directorate), where we also train the community in general with the support of the mayors of the municipalities surrounding Chía, who connect us with entrepreneurs and business owners in the region,” stated Professor Plata.

It is worth noting that in the first half of 2022, after returning to in-person services, we were able to serve 498 people, including those with appointments scheduled by the DIAN (Colombian Tax and Customs Authority), business owners, entrepreneurs, and the academic community. We worked closely with the municipalities of Chía, Cota, Tabio, Cogua, and Sesquilé, reaching users directly in many cases, Plata said.

It's worth mentioning that, as part of the outreach on tax and other related topics, business consulting is also provided on accounting matters, such as strategies for reaching the break-even point for the products or services offered. It's also important to note that the students work in direct collaboration with local governments to reach entrepreneurs.

“The idea this semester is to reach more people with the support of our students, who are previously trained by the DIAN and certified upon completion of their personalized service to the community,” Plata concluded.
