50 years training trainers for the territory

By: Alejandro García Suárez – Advisory Office for Communications.

The University of Cundinamarca is celebrating a special year, paying tribute to the half-century of history of its Faculty of Education, a milestone that recognizes five decades of teacher training, research, and commitment to regional development. The institution will launch a commemorative book that compiles memories, experiences, and contributions that have shaped this academic journey.

Jorge Leonardo Tapias Ordoñez, coordinator of the Bachelor of Social Sciences program, highlighted the profound significance of this anniversary. “For us, it is a source of pride to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Faculty of Education. The University began as ITUC, and over time it has become what it is today, an institution with 55 years of service and more than a thousand graduates who are transforming the country,” he noted.

The commemorative book, the coordinator explained, seeks to preserve the historical and symbolic value of this journey. “The Faculty of Education is a tangible and intangible asset for the department. This publication compiles the experiences of administrators, directors, students, graduates, and knowledge managers. These are 50 years of living stories that deserve to be told.”.

The work, which integrates texts, photographs, graphics, and institutional records, is shaping up to be a document of high academic and emotional value. The coordinator emphasized that the goal is to officially launch it at the 2026 Bogotá International Book Fair, which will take place from April 21 to May 4 at Corferias. “It will be a book much loved by the community. As a graduate of the Bachelor of Social Sciences program, it is exciting to reconnect with the experiences that shaped our education,” he stated.

The knowledge and learning manager also highlighted the collective effort behind this publication, which contextualizes the evolution of education in Colombia from the 1950s to the present. The book addresses the founding of the Faculty, its initial agreements, the opening of undergraduate programs according to the needs of the region, the evolution of academic life, the role of the Orlando Fals Borda Research Center, and the projection of the Transmodern Digital Educational Model – MEDIT.

Finally, he extended an open invitation to the entire university community: “We invite you to read Training Trainers: 50 Years of the Faculty of Education at the University of Cundinamarca. Legacy, Impact, and Future. It will be available at FILBo 2026, in our library, and at the Faculty. This book is a tribute to those who have built and continue to build this history.” A celebration that acknowledges the past, honors the present, and projects an educational future full of hope.
