Student wins second place in the best original composition category.
He is Brayan Lizcano, an eighth-semester student in the Music program at UCundiamarca Zipaquirá extension, who at only 21 years old managed to take this important second place in one of the most recognized competitions in the national field: Jorge Villamil Cordovéz National Composition Competition.
Lizcano, who is part of the tiple faculty at the University, achieved this recognition after passing several rounds of the Competition, in which hundreds of musicians from all over the country participate, before being selected among the five best compositions and finally taking second place only behind the renowned Colombian composer, Víctor Hugo Reina Rivera, composer of more than 180 songs, 20 of them winners of national awards.
Let us remember that this is a national competition held every year that highlights Colombian Andean music, in which compositions and interpretations of traditional rhythms such as bambucos, pasillos, guabinas, among many others are evident.
Thus, this recognition of the UCundinamarca student was given in the middle of this year in the city of Neiva, he represented not only his institution but the Department, facing important composers from Tolima, Huila, Cauca and Antioquia, among others, where there was, for example, Liseth Vega, winner of international awards and teacher of the National Pedagogical University, who came in third place.
“This is a recognition of the effort and preparation, of which UCundinamarca has also been a part with the training it has given me and which I have finally been able to put into practice in activities like this,” Lizcano mentioned.
It should be mentioned that Lizcano was also joined in this competition by his teammate Sergio Sánchez, from the Universidad Surcolombiana de Neiva, who also received a monetary prize.
“For now, I will continue studying to finish my degree, and we will also continue working on other projects to submit to national competitions. We must keep working for what we want; it's not easy, but step by step we achieve our goals,” the student concluded.
