1st cohort of Master of Science in Environmental Sciences

“This master’s program caught my attention because it has an emphasis called environmental complexity, which opens up social, cultural, and educational perspectives,” said graduate Kimberly Rojas Peña.

In a private ceremony and with the support of the Postgraduate Directorate, the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and the Directorate of Admissions and Registration, the professionals Kimberly Rojas Peña and Mónica Ramírez Caviedes received their Master's degree in Environmental Sciences.

The two professionals from the city of Bogotá spent two years strengthening their professional skills and environmental training to develop comprehensive and transdisciplinary strategies that allow them to analyze and propose solutions on issues related to the environment in the public, private or mixed sector, applied to natural and anthropogenic systems.

“For me, it is a very important achievement at a professional level because it allows me to cover a large field related to what I like and have always practiced, environmental education, and in terms of the university, it is an opportunity for the university to start doing studies in correlation with environmental sciences involving all the majors, because the environment is transversal to all areas of knowledge,” said Kimberly Rojas Peña, a graduate in Biology from the National Pedagogical University and a graduate of the master's program.

Kimberly, a graduate, teaches at a school in the municipality of Soacha, and it was there that she developed her research project, which consisted of an educational proposal based on social cartography. This research addressed children's social and environmental knowledge and how they develop this knowledge at home, in their surroundings, and in society. "Children can be active participants in the school's environmental education and in the development of meaningful learning," added the master's degree holder.
