What is volunteering?

Volunteering

It is a process of social participation by the agents that make up the university community. Its purpose is the dialogue of knowledge and the generation of actions to meet the needs of communities, with the aim of contributing to collective wellbeing. This exercise is carried out within a framework of autonomy and solidarity without economic purposes, which contributes to the multidimensional development of its participants as transhuman, active, and transforming subjects.

In Colombia, volunteering is defined as the function of any natural person who freely and responsibly, without receiving labor-based remuneration, offers time, work, and talent for the construction of the common good, individually or collectively, in public or private organizations, or outside of them (Regulation: Law 720 of 2001, Agreement 002 of April 6, 2021).

Why participate in volunteering?

Participating in volunteering is an opportunity to strengthen your social commitment, develop human skills, and contribute to the well-being of communities. Being a volunteer means actively taking part in change.
  1. Dialogue of knowledge with the community: seeks to strengthen in the participating agents the social dimension and community intervention as a life project.
  2. Socially responsible education: seeks to rediscover and rebuild networks and community fabrics.
  3. Field of Cultural Learning and its impact from University Social Interaction: It is the set of meanings that encompasses beliefs, customs, practices, habits, activities, norms, and values that guide the conduct or behavior characteristic of a university community.
  4. Organizing charitable initiatives: understood as the principle of the common good that inspires actions in support of individuals and groups.
  1. To provide guidance, technical assistance, or support to supplement the capabilities of individuals, organizations, and/or communities that need it.
  2. Develop programs and projects in line with the translocal action areas defined by the institution, with a particular focus on the educational and social-community spheres.
  3. Foster through a non-profit service a professional, supportive, and participatory civic awareness to articulate and strengthen the social fabric and community networks, in line with the dimensions and components declared by the Transmodern Digital Educational Model and the University Social Interaction Policy of the University of Cundinamarca.
  4. To foster processes of social participation by volunteer organizations in order to transform the realities of the local context.
  5. To generate sustainable social capital that benefits the community.
  1. Internal: it consists of carrying out volunteering processes that offer support for the resolution of problems and needs identified within the institution itself.
  2. External: refers to support processes that may be carried out within the framework of agreements, cooperation agreements, and partnerships with external entities, such as foundations, companies, cultural groups, public entities, and, in general, social groups that require additional assistance.
  3. Specific activities: It consists of support provided by volunteers to carry out a specific activity or project over a brief and limited period of time, on a temporary basis.
  4. Coordination with University Social Interaction projects and academic programs: support options for implementing initiatives involving academic programs through management activities in continuing education, social interaction, the development of agreements, and internships and co-ops.
